How it all began

How it all began

The love story began in Encinitas California on April 25, 2012. Raya and Matthew were both in town to practice with Ashtanga yoga guru Sharath Jois and met through mutual friend Morgan Lee (Raya knew Morgan from Moksha yoga in Chicago and Matthew and Morgan met and became close friends in Mysore India). They spent the entire trip together practicing yoga in the mornings, eating cupcakes in La Jolla, and hanging out on the beach in Coronado all the while flirting and getting to know each other better. After the trip, Matthew sent Raya flowers and came to visit Chicago the very next weekend. The relationship naturally continued to move forward and the two spent the next year dating long distance, falling in love, and planning a future together.
In June 2013, Raya packed up her cat, Mr. Big, and made the move to California to live with Matthew and his 3 cats. It was a full house for sure but it became clear over the next year that it was meant to be and Matthew made his surprise proposal on April 16th at Omkar 108 during their morning yoga practice. Matthew had alerted their teacher, Jorgen, the night before and he was ready with his camera to capture to moment.
Their wedding is scheduled for April 25th 2015 in San Diego California, which happens to be the exact day and area where the couple first met.

The Pearl is an authentic, intimate, hip and cool, small boutique hotel close to SAN – International Airport, near the Gaslamp Quarter and local tourist attractions. The carefully renovated lodging accommodations have a modern feel and unique appeal, laced with perfect hints of days gone by. They evoke the mid-century aesthetic of ’60s Palms Springs, when the Rat Pack’s glamour thrived; ’70s Los Angeles, when progressive design set new standards; and certainly, they reflect the quiet, contemporary cool of Point Loma and the hip, urban pulse of the nearby downtown San Diego scene.
